Soy Menopause
The industry urges women to eat soy to reduce menopausal symptoms and to prevent osteoporosis. The evidence that soy could do either is inconsistent and contradictory, yet sales of soy foods and soy isoflavone supplements are booming because of the desire for a "safe and natural" alternative to HRT (hormone replacement therapy). Even the soy industry faithful admit that more research is needed to assess the benefits. As Mindy Kurzer, Ph.D, put it, "the manufacturers are way ahead of the science."
