Horizon Sugar vs. Fat - bad science!

On BBC 2 Wednesday 29th January 2014 at 9pm Horizon: Sugar vs. Fat aired for the viewing public. I normally don't blog too much about TV programmes, but the more I watched this particular documentary the more I felt that something had to be said!

Nightshades - to eat or not to eat?

It is highly unlikely that foods from the nightshade family are not eaten on virtually a daily basis in most Western diets. These foods can cause certain problems in sensitive individuals and may actually be playing a role in the background 'noise' of symptoms that may be identified as inflammatory illnesses. Could these foods be leading to your own less than optimal health?

Milk Matters

This clever infographic was recently shared with us. It quickly reviews some of the important elements we need to be concerned with regarding milk production and nutritional value. Whilst it does relate to the USA, there are some great little facts. Enjoy.

Upping your steaks!

Beef has long been demonized as a food that contributes to several modern chronic diseases such as heart disease, osteoporosis and colon cancer. The consumption of red meat has increased in general throughout the Western world, but an association of trends is not proof neither a convincing reason to pin the blame solely on beef for the observed rising disease rates.

Blog talk show - 5 vital keys for weight loss

Renowned life coach and fitness expert Pete Cohen recently invited me to chat with him on his radio show about some of the often overlooked, but key aspects of managing body weight. Listen to the show and share any feedback or comments you wish by clicking below.

Sugar, the sweet and the sour

In recent conversations I have had it seems like an area that continues to catch people out in their efforts to switch over to a better diet is the area of sugars and other foods that help to add sweetness.

Bread, the staff of life? Not any more!

The humble loaf of bread in some form or another has played a significant part in the human diet since biblical times and the dawn of the agricultural era many 1000's of years ago. This ubiquitous food and its basic ingredient, wheat, has worked its way into almost every meal time and snack from breakfast through to dinner.

GMO Alert!

Sir Julian Rose has been an advocate for raw milk in the UK for many years. He has more recently invested a lot of time in the fight against genetically modified organisms (GMO). Today he sent through to us here at Natural Food Finder a fascinating video that reveals the research of a ground-breaking French study on the effects of GM corn.

London Real Food Interview

I was invited recently to Old Street in London to spend some time with Nic and Brian from London Real TV. We recorded a video podcast which proved to be an interesting discussion. You can watch the full episode below:

Heart Surgeon speaks out against National Food Guidelines

I just came across this fascinating article written by Dr Dwight Lundell, a heart surgeon of over 25 years experience. This flies in the face of modern guidelines and the typical 'heart healthy' advice that is peddled by the medical and dietetics industry - worth a read!

Is raw milk really safe to drink? - part 2

After the last post on raw milk safety I have had some great discussions with friends and colleagues regarding the 'evidence' that is typically put forward apparently condemning the safety of drinking unpasteurised milk.

Should we forget exercise for weight loss and use diet only!

The Daily Mail reported a story on 13th September 2011 entitled ‘The government should stop promoting exercise as a weight loss measure...and we should just eat less’ as a result of a statement recently made by Lord McColl of Dulwich. We felt this bold stance need some comment on our part as diet and exercise play such a critical role in weight management.

'The WHOLE Truth'

Local or Organic? What is best?

The Ecologist published a small article today asking the question if it is best to source local food, or organic food. This is a very interesting question with a simple answer.

MSG - flavour fantastic

Monosodium Glutamate, abbreviated to MSG, has become one of the most commonly added additives in popular fast and convenience foods today! It stimulates the taste buds with the sixth taste, known as umami.

New Year Food Revolution

The new year always brings with it a chance to review the past, take stock and make new, positive goals for the future. It is often a time when people make resolutions to do better with their diet, their exercise habits and generally in taking care of their health and the way they look. For some this may well lead to a much improved future and a significant change for the better.

New Heart Disease Theory

I read this article when it was first published in the Weston A Price (WAP) Journal in 2007 and was impressed by this new concept. In November 2010 at the annual WAP conference near Philadelphia, Dr Cowan delivered an excellent lecture on this same topic. This inspired me to post his article on the site for your benefit.

Historical Christmas dinner

Christmas Turkey

Turkey's scientific name is Meleagris gallopava (mel-e-AY-gris-low-PAY-voe) from Latin gallus, meaning cock, and pavo, meaning chickenlike. Meleagris is the Roman name for guineafowl, suggestive of the early confusion of the turkey with guineafowl.

Fed up with the Fat Tax!

After several years of discussion and debate, the topic of levying a 'fat tax' on certain food products continues to rear it's ugly head in both the press and the government. The Daily mail reported on 11th November 2011 that

Milk - nourishing or nasty?

Milk is normally considered to be a food of the agricultural age which is said to have begun approximately 10,000 years ago. However, archaeological evidence indicates that in regions near the Red Sea that fences were used to confine and breed antelopes for their milk more than 30,000 years ago (Schmid, 2003).
